Greetings readers! Welcome to The Cookbook Project.
Today I am going to share another goto recipe that I have been using for years that is versatile with about three meals.
Have you ever bought a seasoning packet for making taco meat? Well, I am sharing that recipe with you. I make this mix up fresh every time we have tacos, taco salad, or my version of nachos. There is never any left overs. This requires having a lot of spices on hand, but you buy them once and they last for a very long time.
Ingredients:
- 1 Tablespoon All Purpose Flour
- 1 Teaspoon Chili Powder
- 1 Teaspoon Paprika
- 3/4 Teaspoon Salt
- 3/4 Teaspoon Minced Onion
- 1/2 Teaspoon Cumin
- 1/4 Teaspoon Cayenne Pepper
- 1/4 Granulated Garlic or Garlic Powder
- 1/4 Teaspoon Sugar
- 1/8 Teaspoon Ground Oregano
Add all ingredients in a bowl. For enhancing the flavor of the Oregano I place the spice between the palms of my hand and rub them together over the mixing vessel. This will release the natural oils in the oregano and make it a little more tasty. Oh and your hands will smell delicious! Shown here I have bothered to actually mix up the spices together, but it is not necessary as the stirring action while cooking will do this step just fine.In a large skillet, brown 1 lb. ground beef until crumbly; drain fat. Add spice mixture and 2/3 C water, mix thoroughly. Bring to a boil; reduce heat to low and cook, uncovered, 7 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
At this point it is up to you whether this will go into taco shells, flour tortillas, or over nachos or a salad.
When making tacos or a taco salad I also use this dressing recipe for additional flavor. When making a salad I also add this with some corn chips like frittos.
I am uncertain if you can premix this seasoning up as some spices loose their Umpth if they are mixed with other spices.
Enjoy!
With the fast pace life of today, some cooking traditions are falling by the way side. Fast is first, taste is second, and healthy is dead last. So, I have created a blog accidentally. The food published on this site is intended for a homemade cookbook, scrapbook style. For the life of me I cannot get my act together to submit my recipes to a website with my pictures and create my cookbook for my family. So I am putting them out on a WordPress server to keep them safe for years and for them to use and remember. If you happen by, welcome. Please sit and stay awhile. Use my recipes and taste my samples from the convenience of your home. You will not be disappointed!
